Organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics have unveiled a striking design language rooted in the rare natural spectacle of California's wildflower explosions

Organizers of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics have introduced a comprehensive visual identity system characterized by vivid chromatic intensity and dynamic graphic elements.

This cohesive design framework will permeate the entire Games ecosystem, establishing visual continuity across accreditation materials, staff apparel, wayfinding systems, competition facilities, and the Olympic Village infrastructure.

Unveiled Monday, the aesthetic direction derives its conceptual foundation from California's superbloom phenomenon—a cyclical botanical event occurring approximately once per decade during spring months, when optimal precipitation patterns trigger mass germination of dormant wildflower seeds across the state's diverse topography.

The LA28 design team conducted extensive archival research into previous Olympic and Paralympic visual programs, with particular attention to the design legacy of the 1984 Los Angeles Games, extracting key principles that informed their contemporary approach.

The color architecture draws primary hues from the Bird of Paradise, Los Angeles' designated municipal flower, whose distinctive orange tones anchor a broader palette representing 13 distinct bloom varieties that collectively comprise the Superbloom visual system. The design team constructed all graphic elements on a rigorous underlying grid structure, strategically reducing visual density in proximity to athletic competition zones to preserve competitor concentration.

"Our objective was to create a visual language that authentically reflects Los Angeles' character," stated Geoff Engelhardt, LA28's head of brand design. "This city operates at the convergence of athletic excellence and creative industries, and the 2028 Games will channel that distinctive energy as we welcome the global community."

The visual identity received its public debut Monday evening at Intuit Dome, the venue designated for Olympic basketball competition. Attendees at the Los Angeles Clippers game encountered a large-scale digital presentation of the LA28 design system on the facility's exterior plaza screen, with an additional reveal video broadcast within the arena.
