According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the Yankees have listened to teams interested in acquiring All-Star second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. Brian Cashman was asked about potentially trading the star second baseman one year before he hits the open market.
"He’s somebody who I think is currently part of the solution, someone that's made us better by getting him two deadlines ago and giving us athleticism," Cashman told MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. "He's above-average. He’s an All-Star second baseman, great defense, steals bags, power — all that stuff. He’s been a good get. We will be open-minded. But again, my default is these are all individually good players. We acquired them for a reason.”
...While Chisholm has been great for the Yankees since they acquired him, he will hit the open market next offseason. The door was clearly left open for a trade. He has mentioned he would like to stay with the Yankees, but he is sure to have plenty of suitors.
"I don’t want to leave New York,” Chisholm said in September, per The Athletic's Chris Kirschner. “If you’ve ever played here, you would never want to leave. At the end of the day, it just depends on if they want me. That’s the difference. Do they want a 40-40 player? You tell me.”
He became the third Yankee to have a season with at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases. He has had a major impact on the team, but he could yield a haul in a trade. If the Yankees have reservations about paying him, trading him now would not be the worst idea.
