Buffalo blew a 3-0 lead as the Edmonton Oilers scored three times in the third period, capping the comeback with two seconds left in regulation, before Alex Tuch rescued the Sabres with a goal 33 seconds into overtime for a 4-3 road victory on Tuesday night. Buffalo snapped a three-game losing streak with the win, with Josh Doan scoring a pair of goals and Tage Thompson adding a goal and two assists. Alex Lyon finished the game in the net after Colten Ellis left with an upper-body injury with 59 seconds left in the first period.
The Canucks lost for the fifth time in six games, falling to 1-4-1 in that span, as they were blanked by the visiting Detroit Red Wings 4-0 on Monday night. Vancouver peppered the Red Wings with 39 shots, outshooting Detroit 39-21, but never got the puck in the net. Kevin Lankinen was pulled after allowing three goals on 13 shots through the first two periods and extended their streak without a power-play goal to six games in the loss.
Thompson leads the Sabres with 14 goals while Tuch has 11, with each posting 26 points thus far. Lyon is 4-6-3 in 15 appearances and 13 starts in goal, with a shutout to go with an .899 save percentage and 3.22 goals-against average. Kiefer Sherwood’s 12 goals lead Vancouver, with Brock Boeser adding nine tallies, and Elias Pettersson, who didn’t play on Monday with an upper-body injury, posting a team-best 22 points. Lankinen is 4-10-3 in 17 games and 16 starts with an .878 save percentage and 3.49 GAA.
